Wilhelm Schein was born in Carinthia in 1955. After studying medicine, he devoted himself to his profession as a doctor, approaching it with dedication and a sense of responsibility for over four decades.
While still a student, he began teaching himself art, initially as a meditative counterbalance to the demands of hospital life and later as a passionate complement to his medical work. His preferred medium is black-and-white charcoal drawings on paper. Having completed his professional career, he now devotes himself entirely to his art.
Quote:
Artistic work with charcoal is my passion. The charcoal drawing emphasizes reduction to the essentials by dispensing with colour in favour of contrast and structure. Light and shadow come to the fore and enable a profound interpretation of form and expression. At the same time, the fleeting and changeable nature of charcoal allows for immediate intuition and spontaneity in the artistic process. This type of representation thus expresses not only the essence of the motif, but also the energy of the creative moment. The black and white works also allow the viewer to add details and emotions using their imagination.
