Xiao Jun Chen is a Chinese-Austrian artist living and working in Vienna.
Many of her paintings emerge through an intuitive and experimental creative process, where color, texture, and gesture interact freely on the canvas. While some works begin with visual references or observations, she often allows the painting to develop organically, creating spaces that evoke emotions, memories, and personal associations.
Through layering paint, scraping surfaces, and exploring different materials, she builds compositions rich in depth, movement, and atmosphere. During the creative process, unexpected forms and landscapes frequently appear, revealing themselves gradually through the act of painting.
Her work is characterized by expressive color, tactile textures, and a balance between spontaneity and reflection. Influenced by both her Chinese cultural background and her life in Europe, she continues to explore a visual language that connects inner experience with the physical presence of painting, inviting viewers to discover their own interpretations.
