Ji Suk Baek (Jessy Baek Tomas) is a South Korean artist based in Croatia, where she has lived and worked for nearly 30 years. She studied at an art academy in Seoul and completed a master’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts (ALU) in Zagreb, developing a unique visual language that blends Eastern sensibility with European expression. Her first solo exhibition featured 30 portraits of refugee children from Vukovar, displayed at a refugee camp in Črnomerec, which was established as a result of the Croatian Homeland War. Over the past 25 years, Jessy has held 22 solo exhibitions and 16 group exhibitions across Croatia, South Korea, Spain, and Germany. Her work—deeply inspired by nature, inner reflection, and spiritual themes—has gained recognition for its lyrical interpretation of forests, trees, and the human spirit. Her paintings are characterized by a poetic stillness and a meditative quality, inviting viewers into a space of quiet emotional depth. Jessy’s art has been widely featured on national television, in major newspapers, and in a documentary film dedicated to her life and artistic journey. Her paintings are highly appreciated by art collectors in Croatia and abroad, admired for their sincerity, timelessness, and the emotional connection they inspire.
