Andrea Kicker — born, raised, and based in rural Austria — is a ceramic artist working with clay as both canvas and medium of transformation.

I’ve been holding pens and paintbrushes in my hands for as long as I can remember. Much later, I discovered clay — a material that now allows me to express my artistic voice in a way nothing else does. I received formal training in ceramics and art through the Master Class at the Ortweinschule Graz and through various workshops in Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and London. Still, I consider myself largely self-taught. Working with clay — especially exploring surfaces and developing glazes — feeds my childlike curiosity and my constant desire to learn, to try, to fail, and to find new solutions. It teaches me to let go of control, to welcome unpredictability, and to find beauty in the unexpected. I love the endless possibilities that clay offers: its tactile qualities, its rootedness in the earth, and the way it transforms — through fire — into something lasting and precious. In my work, I create unique vessels, often oversized and used as canvases. Some are defined by carefully developed glazes; others bear the wild, unpredictable marks of pit firing. Alongside this, I am deeply drawn to the psychological and emotional landscape of being human, which I explore through sculptural forms — and often through the most ancient and universal ceramic form: the vessel.
