Bernhard Kramer was born in 1961 and grew up on a farm in Marthalen in the Zurich wine-growing region. After training as a tinsmith and working in that profession for several years, he moved into the retail sector. He has been devoting himself to painting since 1991. In addition to his self-taught work, he attended painting and drawing courses at the Migros Club School in Schaffhausen. Over the years, his artistic focus has shifted from representational art towards a free, material-oriented visual language in which colour, light and texture play a central role. His works are characterised by a strong connection to nature. Bernhard Kramer has been active again since 2018, following a lengthy creative hiatus. His current body of work consists mainly of collages on canvas, in which acrylic is combined with materials such as metal, real gold leaf, card and fabric. Since 1993, he has exhibited regularly in Switzerland and abroad, including in Germany, Austria and Slovakia. My motto is: Art is everything the viewer does not expect.
