Informal painting

In a free interplay of different materials, I compose layered pictures in imaginary, often landscape-like spaces. The paintings arise from a desire for the sensuality of colour and colour forms. The works reflect impressions and emotions in a free interplay of glaze painting, the overlapping of colours and the pasty application of paint. Figurative painting

I find motifs for my figurative depictions in photographs. Urban people and their free spaces are my subject. I paint people in an informal, natural way - not in the awareness of being „captured“ in a picture. The challenge is to discover, emphasise, exaggerate and capture what is unique in a supposedly trivial situation. My aim is to preserve the poetry of the situation without sacrificing the energy of the situation and its power.

Gestures and postures are reduced to the essentials in large brushstrokes. Stillness and movement, the relationship of the individual figures to each other or in space create tension. The background allows for free associations. Small format (works in mixed media on canvas, wooden boxes and cardboard honeycomb boxes)

Using a mix of materials, I abstract people and animals and alienate the form and colour. The collages are made up of set pieces from the ink, pastel or watercolour paintings I have previously made myself on Japanese paper with a reed pen and brush. The line always plays a part. Wax surfaces make the work appear transparent and sensual. Exhibitions
