Rana Awwad

Rana Awwad is an Egyptian artist based in Austria. She holds a B.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences. She creates intricate compositions that combine ornamental patterns with storytelling. Working with acrylic on wood and mixed media, including modelling paste, stones and mosaic mirrors, she creates textured, richly detailed surfaces.

Whilst influenced by mandalas and dot painting, her work goes beyond mere decoration, as each piece is built around a central symbol or concept.

The surrounding patterns are developed in relation to this central element, linking details with meaning. Many of these patterns are bespoke, giving each artwork its own character. Rana’s connection to art began in early childhood, when drawing became her way of observing and expressing the world around her. Inspired by Egyptian heritage, her work invites the viewer to slow down, look more closely, and discover the story within.
