Although it sounds populist – and I hate populism – I believe that visual art should, above all, please and move the viewer. In my paintings, I am primarily concerned with the overall effect that emerges for me from the interplay of planes, lines, colours and their arrangement within the composition, which means my work bears a strong resemblance to photography and design in general. My paintings rarely convey a statement or a message; in some cases, this is reflected at most in the title of the work.
